Farse- Its okay big guy, you can let out your jealous frustrations here on this anonymous board. No one will hold it against you for holding onto a percieved slight that happened over 3 years ago. I mean heck, last year ASU finished with a better conference record, and ranked above all of the other teams from the former "Socal Premier League" that wanted to keep ASU out because they were "inferior." (Note: UC Santa Barbara was in D1 as opposed to the CPD, so its hard to compare). So go ahead, hate away. ASU has nothing to feel sorry about. They are the ones that are winning and improving their program...

SS- ASU may be a "lesser known" rugby school, but they finished 5-2 in the premier league last year, and ranked 10th in the country. They are a well run program that doesn't have issues with attending these types of tournaments. I think a lot of people are sleeping on ASU in this tournament. Especially considering they just beat University of Arizona down in Tucson 2 weeks ago...

"Cal does not quit": I don't "feel" anything for a single cancelled match from ten years ago. Lame example. I do however feel a lot of pride in the pac12 and rugby15's/7's. This opportunity is huge for Cal to step up and participate in an inagural tournament within its league and with national implications (we'll work on USC involvement; kudos to the Oregon schools, ASU, less-known Rugby schools for their enthusiatic support). Or, cal could join the WCC 7's league.

@SS - So you played sports at Stanford and feel that "Dodging a legitimate and supportable PAC10(12) tournament is exactly what's happening. Cal should put up that weekend or don't make it to nationals." How did you feel when Stanford forfeited the rugby game against Cal in 2001(one of the longest rivalries in all of sports) because they were "very afraid to get injured and indeed fear for their safety" (Stanford's own words)? Memories must be short. I believe an appropriate expression is - Those in glass houses should never throw stones.

I agree. The only reason that Cal is in the California 7 qualifier the next weekend at St Mary's is because Claremont Colleges committed and then dropped out after the pools and schedule had been made. Adding Cal helped make sure the tourney had 10 teams. I think it is pretty pathetic that Claremont jerked everyone around by dropping out at the last minute and very opportunist of Cal to slot in.

Carugby-- I played 2 sports at the better school across the bay and we didn't worry about accolades from fans of a different sport when it's game day. The fans can wait to applause until the Cal-WSU game in 2 weeks. Dodging a legitimate and supportable PAC10(12) tournament is exactly what's happening. Cal should put up that weekend or don't make it to nationals.

Sorry No One - this is Championship week at Cal and, along with all other individual and teams who won national titles for Cal in 2010-11, the Cal rugby team will be honored on the field at AT&T during half-time of the Cal vs. Utah football game. That obligation was scheduled long before the Pac-7s tourney. Above all esle, Cal rugby doesn't "dodge" anyone

I thought the big advantage with having college conferences is to be able to brand these things and the best brand (USC) in the Pac 12 and the best team (Cal) aren't even in the tourney. Looks like the concept isn't working out as planned.
