Anon, Where do you get your information. The Lions had to provide a roster with CIPP numbers to the opponent b4 every game. This is then verified by the opposing team, and sent to the Midwest. How could the Lions have fielded a SL team during D1?

Anon, Where are you getting your facts? LIons were not allowed to play thier SL side in the fall. The roster is checked and varified before each game by the opposing team, the ref, and sent to a tu rep

I would like to see 2 divisions - competetive and recreational. You either play for hardware and playoffs, or you play for fun. It would prevent the D1 to D3 mess without a bunch of red tape, and address the cost/money issues with travelling for playoffs by limiting the number of clubs travelling.

I realize your point, I just don't think it's valid. If you think the Lions are messing up the playoff table, get better and beat them, or go join the Lions next season. I dont think you should be able to jump clubs mid season because your "home" team didn't make the playoffs, but it's not the Lions fault that their D1 and Super League competitions are in different seasons. They're trying to build the strongest club they can.

Anon- I believe you're making my point....this would be the "It's not fair" complaint. The other side of this are those that feel borderline players are being robbed game by not being able to play for the RSL and D1 side, but 1 or the other - either way, it's not going to be perfect, someone is going to be griping. Win in the fall and it's not an issue.

Mike B: What you're forgetting is that teams like the Chicago Lions send their B team to Nationals after playing their RSL side in the fall. This keeps a Midwest D1 team from making Nationals - and they're being blocked by a team they didn't even play (Lions B)!

Half of those that complain want what's fair, half of those that complain want to make the level of competition the best. This appears to miss on both accounts - I do agree with RugbyFan that things should be settled on the field. D1 teams that need protection from Super League squads should be taking a look in the mirror rather than crying to their Union or USA Rugby. Pick your team, work to make them the best and stop complaining because you can't jump to the best mid season now or because things aren't fair. Fair is a word used to appease infants - it's not reality.

This isn't pro sports, this is amateur sports, which means every player is a free agent. If a player chooses to play for a D2 team, he shouldn't be able to "play up" in that same year. He chose his team for that year. Now, if he changes jobs, moves, his club folds, etc, then his case should at least be heard for mid-season transfer. Of course, we could all just play club in the fall, and RSL/rep rugby in the spring, and these issues go away for the most part.
