Thretton Palamo actually walked onto the Utes football team, so he's not getting a scholarship. He may earn one or have already earned one but he certainly didn't make the team as a scholarship athlete. Is he possibly chasing the football money...sure. However, it's not like he couldn't find himself playing rugby professionally (again) with a good world cup showing. Something else to think about with Palamo, he's going to be getting top notch physio, strength training, meal plans, supplements, etc for a few years. If football doesn't pan out he'll be an even better athlete when he comes back to rugby.

I'm curious as to why sifa can't be looked at as a flyhalf. He seems to fit the mold.

If his Pec isn't right he can't play, I don't think anyone is criticizing his talent, at this point it is a matter of whether or not he can get in form and convince selectors he is ready before the test series.

The issue for Patterson making the team isn't talent, it's recovery from injury. He might not be back in time.

(seriously?) < man if a University offers Thretton a full ride to play football and PAY FOR THE MANS SCHOOL. < why wouldnt he take that opportunity and run with it? he would be dumb not to. I think they should try Jared Whippy with the USA squad .. he has been here over 2 yrs, and played AWESOME for BYU at the inside Center spot. Great defender, and very aggresive attacking offense

It says IF Patterson makes the team. No other American is even close to making a Super 15 side let alone a New Zealand one so im sure IF he decides to play for the eagles he will be straight in wherever he wants. Palamo is chasing the football glory and $ its not about the game anymore

A few thoughts - Roland Suniula may make the squad because he played well at 10 when he came on late agst. Saxons. Expect him to get another run at 10 this summer. Sifa may have been eclipsed by Andrew Suniula - very good player, but not quite dynamic enough as Suniula. Seta can't be ignored, but he needs to prove himself with the Eagles in whatever chances he gets this summer; it's a shame he was injured and couldn't play in th Churchill Cup because it would have been a perfect opportunity to show if his great form in France translates to the Eagles. Hall is a good guy and a great player, but the few matches left and so many players to test at center may play against him; on the other hand, he can play 10 as well and there is no clear backup to Nese right now. Also, if Scully and either Hawley or Swiryn prove themselves worthy of an outright starting spot this summer, don't be surprised to see Emerick & Wyles pair in the centers, a very talented & dangerous pairing in my opinion.
