True but they will make a giant step if they win the 3 games AND if there is more than 10 people on the sideline to watch the game... Winning the 1st game - even largely - and losing the 2 others won't help. And that venue was just pitiful. A shame for an American National Team, especially if we want to grow College Rugby... Keep up the good work boys!

Admittedly, the United States All Americans played against players that were several years younger and not as filled out. And, the New Zealand team was not the best it has in that age group. But, the United States Team played great rugby. They took advantage of almost every mistake by New Zealand. They took advantage of their size and strength. And, they didn't make many mistakes. Last Saturday was a giant step for American Rugby.

I'm pretty sure this team is locked and loaded already! and they make an excellent representative core of All Americans. Mr. Roundy is a fantastic college rugby player....somewhat like, ah, "like bull in China Shop",..... as my dad used to say! Love to watch him run (and drag three opponents with him)!!!! But there certainly are some other Back-rowers, ...and 9's and 10's in the South, as well, that represent the best in Collegiate Rugby today.... Good luck this week boys, in the remaining matches! We'll be following on Twitter again.....

Barnaby...you don't think Thretton Palamo and a few others could make this team even better? Not taking anything away from this team, they are doing great and I think Roundy is the best college player in the country IMO. Just sayin it would be really cool to see a couple of those unavailble guys along with them too.

What a pity that this important game was so badly presented by the San Diego rugby community. Poor pre game publicity- a practice field tucked away behind Qualcom stadium-no bleacher or grandstand seating- plastic goalposts that disintegrated within five minutes of play-and no admission charge (which would have been a nice gift to help offset the visitors expenses) San Diego has OMBAC RFC, SDSU,Old Aztecs, various other clubs and is home to the US Rugby foundation- and this is what they can produce? The game itself was a significant leap forward for American Rugby, promising good things for the future of the game, after years of dissapointment. Credit must be given to the coaching staff, who put together a very well disciplined team. Certain players must surely have advanced their prospects into the Eagles pool as well. Alltogether a great rugby game, but with better publicity and a fan friendly venue, would have been an improvement.

I agree a game against the NZ U21 side would have had a VASTLY different result. But either way well done eagles.

It's the nz universities under 21 team. What people don't understand is that the nz universities team is not a recognized nz national team as in the nzru has nothing to do with it while the criteria to play for them is you must go to the university and play for them. These are no way near professional players and is probably looked at as a fun social trip for the kiwi boys

In terms of National Teams age rankings, the Under 21s disappeared to be replaced by the Under 20s. And this competition just took place in Georgia and Italy for the 2 levels, which NZ won again. So the All-Americans didn't face a NZ National Team but a selection of players under 21 years old from various Universities. Here is a link to see their full squad: http://www.kickandchase.blogspot.com/

Don't get needlessly excited. The NZ team was full of teenagers. It was not a true representative side. Kids who are the same age as the All Americans would already be playing club rugby. The All Americans looked hungry, got to the breakdowns hot, counter rucked and tackled well then had a back line that was decent. it was great to watch. They did the simple things hard and quick. Peter Tiberio. A kid to watch, but I am yet to see him properly tested. This match was a one way street. Backs live for games like this. Generally, this is how we would love to see the Eagles play. Simple, hard and quick. However, in the real scheme of things, the match was equivalent to CAL playing Phoenix University.
