The Unknowns The country is just too big for selectors to see every one. They do a pretty god job of identifying talent in competitive programs but if teams are not competing at the national level selectors can't see them. I am sure there is a bunch of undiscovered talent playing at lower levels in colleges and men's clubs around the country. Unfortunately with our huge geographic size and relative lack of competitive and well structured rugby programs it isn't possible to identify these players and get them playing at a higher level. Carravelli is taking steps with traveling to try-outs and combines but until there are teams of regional selectors working full time as scouts talent will continue to slip through. If you can solve the problem without spending too much I am sure USA rugby will listen.

For the value it actually provides, and realizing it was a Collegiate 15's All Star Event, go back to vimeo.com and review the uploaded semi and final matches, from last month's matches in Glendale. Watch the running and passing of the "South's" Back Row (Lambert, Dolan and Potgeiter)......You'll want to run that unit on any All American 7's Team.......it, seemingly, looked like "Men against Boys"....

Gonumber6 Holder and Leatigaga who are the two service academy players most likely to be selected were both listed by USA rugby as "Considered but Unavailable" for the 15's AA touring side. THis seems to imply that they were selected for a top side, it was given to them and either West Point didn't allow them to go or they chose not to for another reason. Either way, if they weren't available for 15's AA's what indication is there that they would be available for 7's?

This is a great list so far and no doubt these are some of the most talented players around, but like the article says there are those players that we haven't even seen yet. I saw a wing Kyle Gramby from Iona College I believe, playing for New York Rugby, led his men's team to a tournament final with his lightning speed (one of the fastest guys around), relentless tackling and solid 7's play. There have been many others that I've seen recently, a few kids from Penn State, didn't get their names and a wing from Stony Brook if I'm not mistaken. With the exception of Penn State, I believe these small school players aren't given the same opportunity and chance to prove that they are collegiate all-stars.

I think it's a load of BS that you aren picking military academy players. It's a big misconception that they are off limits-- it's this misconception itself that makes them off limits. If they get selected for for top side or select side teams (such as olympic 7s) they will be allowed to compete and serve a different commitmen that wouldn't interfere with rugby. Take Will Holder from Army for example, former USA u20 and potentially 2016 Olympic 7s contender-- he has a great shot in making these teams but articles like this that shoot down their opportunity because of ignorance, could significantly change these players futures. If they've earned a spot on a top team, give it to them.

Guys, Can we avoid using pound for pound? That term has relevance when talking about fighters who are divided by weight classes, so to discuss who the overall best might be, the term P4P is applicable. In rugby, everyone is on the same pitch. So people's overall package of attributes come into play. They might be small, but they are fast. They might be slow but they are strong. P4P does not come into play in the same way.

Tim is a little guy, but pound for pound he is one of the strongest players I have ever seen. Tim deserves a shot as he has the talent to play with the best of the best. As for Kutztown being a small school. The school might not have a big name, but it is a good size school (11,000 students). On top of that KU plays its rugby in the toughest confernece (top to bottom) in the CPD. As for KU playing average rugby, just ask KU's quote] I did, they weren't impressed. BTW, Jason, you just removed your small school excuse for losing next season
