Club Lacrosse does the exact same thing and they are miles ahead of club rugby. Just check out their website... http://mcla.us. They have Nike as a sponsor and are on ESPNU all the time. They've essentially setup a minor league system until their teams get promoted to varsity status. Their system works very well.

Are we honestly still pushing this stupid football eligibility concept? "Sorry Auburn you did not actually win because your volleyball team played in D2 last year!" As much as we aspire for Rugby to be a varsity sport, right now it is a club sport. Let's just work with what we have.

Looking at the chart again, it makes even more sense for Allegheny to fold into East Penn. WVU and Pitt could be mildly competitive and a State based conference would be a lot less miles on the vans.

Good for IUP. They did make the final 4 one year and had a brief stint in the Mid-Atlantic Union. The other PA schools like Clarion, Slippery Rock and Cal are all solidly D2 schools.

Allowing conferences to count CPD teams toward their required seven is a terrible decision. Those CPD teams are not vying for a spot at the D1 nationals, so the other teams in the conference still only have to beat out a few teams to get that spot. The point of a minimum is avoid making it easy for teams to reach nationals. I know concessions have to be made during transition periods, but you can't give an automatic qualifying bid to a conference that only effectively has five teams vying for it. If we ever want to see a d1 nationals that could possibly include the best sixteen teams, offering this many automatic bids is not the way to do it.

@Clay - They have 1 more year before they have to move up to Div I before losing playoff eligibility. So next year they could win the Div II Nat'l title. CPD teams can play in Division 1 as themselves, as their B-side, etc. Just b/c Ohio State is in the Mideast, doesn't mean they will not also be in the CPD. @Rugby Fan - I didn't check, but I believe all of those are all Div I-AA/FCS schools, which means they can stay in Div II and remain playoff eligible.
