despite what other may think... BYU players aren't on scholarship. the international students that play have to work their behinds off to pay for school and survive. @eldeano run straight at any of the BYU forwards and then we'll see who's making excuses. obyag

Most of the BYU players are gone home trying to make enough summer money to afford tuition for next fall. Several other notable players from BYU are working in the BYU summer camp that starts on Monday in Provo. Give the kids scholarships and they'll likely be at these assemblies. 2 years ago Shaun Davies suffered a knee injury playing for the grizzlies requiring a long recuperation. Without comprehensive medical care (insurance) for these assemblies, the boys can be taking a big chance with their careers and their finances for very little additional exposure. And, if you make the all-american traveling squad, you likely have to pony up another $1,000 to go play somewhere and likely get waxed by the opponent once you get there. Once you've done that, it may not be easy to recruit a kid to go play again. It's a pretty expensive experience, especially if you've done it before.

It is not a matter of snubbing anybody. The coaches for those programs have to release their players. JC is notorious for not letting his 1st team players play in events such as this. Also, Cal, BYU and Utah have had a long season, competing in the CPD play-offs and Cal and Utah in the recent CRC Sevens event. The coahces likely pulled those players to save them from potential injury since they are a already a known quantity for selectors.

Why don't any of the big name cal or byu guys play in this tournament? Its a chance to play against the best guys in the country. If the grizzlies had half of the available talent from those schools to go with the Saint Mary's and Utah guys they could easily compete for the championship

Who was responsible for selecting the Pac Coast side? It used to be dominance by the Pac Coast every year ... I guess that's what you get when you snub BYU and only take a few seconds players from Cal. Brilliant!
