In California, Stanford had its highest scoring output in a conference game this season, 20, against Cal Poly, while San Diego State rebounded from back-to-back losses with a bonus-point win over UCSB. The victory puts the Aztecs at 1-1 in the league table with very winnable games against Stanford, Sac State and UC Davis in the coming weeks. Just as the schedule gets more favorable for San Diego State, coach Matt Hawkins returns. The beginning of the season was choppy with Hawkins on the road with the 7s Eagles in Wellington and Las Vegas, but he should be around for most of the Aztecs' remaining games, as the next stretch of the IRB 7s World Series coincides nicely with SDSU's spring break. Talented Aztec flyhalf Kalei Konrad suffered a knee injury at the LVI and did not play against UCSB. His recovery time table is still undetermined. He is a vital piece of the puzzle for SDSU. Continuing on in impressive fashion in the California was St. Mary's, who beat Sacramento State 83-0. The Gaels have steamrolled their way to 3-0 with relative ease. Upcoming this weekend are more California and Allied conference matches. The headliner will be a rivalry game between Oklahoma and Texas. There are also some intriguing non-conference matches between DI-A opponents, as Arkansas State hosts Northern Colorado and Life hosts Delaware.

California continued conference play last weekend, while the Allied Rugby Conference kicked off its inaugural season with two games. Both of the ARC matches resulted in blowouts, with Texas Tech and Oklahoma winning big over Sam Houston and Baylor, respectively.
