The tournament takes the shape of an all UC competition, with UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Riverside and Cal competing. "UCLA is delighted to kick off our Rugby XVs season by welcoming back to campus most of our UC colleagues," said Bruins head coach Scott Stewart. "The friendly rivalry and competition that exists between the teams will create some exciting rugby on the field and reinforce the camaraderie off it." The prize of the weekend is the new Dennis Storer Memorial Trophy, commissioned by Dorothy Storer, widow of the former UCLA and USA Eagles coach. Cal, ranked No. 3 in the RUGBYMag All Divisions Top 25 presented by Selective Service, headlines the event. The Bears are traveling with a lot of bodies and an eye towards getting them all playing time, but they will likely field something close to their top side for Sunday’s match against No. 13 UCLA. "Our plan is to travel everyone that's healthy, about 60 players, and give them all a chance to play," said head coach Jack Clark. "Like all the teams, we want to win, but the first time out, I am more interested in spreading around the playing time than I am in chasing results. In the four matches, we'll select four different lineups and reserve benches. If things go to plan, we could select close to a starting team on Sunday." The competition also features a high school bracket.

There are several college rugby friendlies being played this weekend, but the biggest conglomeration of them will be at the Dennis Storer Classic hosted by UCLA Saturday and Sunday.
