The University of Utah has as good as clinched a spot in the CPD quarterfinals with a 97-0 win over #31 Wyoming.
Utah leads Arizona State by ten points in the standings, with ASU having two games to go, one of which is against BYU.
The Utes got three tries from Sione Lauti, who also helped kick 11 conversions. Don Pati scored two tries, a day after scoring five against Colorado State, thus vaulting him to among the league leaders.
"I was very pleased with the defense," said Utah Head Coach Blake Burdette, who saw his side win two games in two days. "To shut them out was a big deal, and we had a couple of goal-line stands which were important for us. It was also good for us to run and work on our systems when not playing against ourselves."
Burdette said he ran out his best 15 against Wyoming as he looked to fine-tune the squad before the CPD playoffs.
Utah should be the West #2, behind BYU, which is the only team Utah has lost to in league play. That scoreline of 40-22 is easily the closest league match BYU has played all season. Utah will visit the winner of next week's Army v. Navy match in the quarterfinals May 7.
