“We really wanted to go out and have a great game,” Davies said, “I was glad to score five tries, but more importantly we finished off the season with a win.” Davies not only scored five tries, but he also converted 11 tries to round his total point tally to 47 of BYU’s 99. BYU’s 15 tries were scored largely on the back of strong defense holding a strong CU attack that averaged 46 points per game this season to just 12 points today. The Cougars opening try came after a defensive turn-over that offered senior prop Mikey Su’a the chance to off-load to a supporting fellow prop Ray Forrester in the 4th minute. More defensive effort and a CU turn over gave BYU another scoring opportunity with Forrester apparently scoring after a series of well-worked phases. But referee Tim Luscombe said Forrester was held up in-goal gave BYU an attacking 5 meter scrum. From the ensuing scrum the Cougars would look to push-over and captain No. 8 Ryan Roundy picked the ball up to lunge over for the short-range score in the 9th minute. Davies would gather his first try in the 15th minute after another active counter-ruck by Forrester offered Davies the chance to chip and re-gather for the score. After the following restart BYU’s Roundy would break free to spring the Cougars’ attack. A deft series of off-loads found the ball in center Chris Wernli’s hands who passed to a bursting senior flyhalf Dylan Lubbe. The Lubbe try in the 17th minute would push the BYU lead out to 28-0. With the Cougars seeming to be well in control the Buffaloes mounted their own attack and made a deep foray into the BYU half. As the BYU defense bent the CU attack eventual broke through in the 22nd minute for a try. The Buffalo try wasn’t converted and BYU would lead 28-5. The Cougars would tally a duo of tries from freshman center Tua Leai and fullback Jordan Lowry before the half time whistle and two successive conversions gave BYU a commanding 42-5 lead. After the break the Cougars came out fast to score in the 41st minute with senior flanker Kumi Tua’one barreling ahead for the second half score under the posts. Davies would tally three out of four tries in the next 20 minutes with winger Malosi Te’o also dotting down during the same period. Senior reserve prop Joey Mount garnered a hard-working try in the 60th minute after running and rolling into the endzone for the try. The bevy of tries and conversions would put the score with BYU leading 80-5. Reserve wing Andrew Carver would join Lubbe and Davies to round out the BYU scoring before CU would tally their final try in the 80th minute. The final score would end with referee Luscombe blowing the whistle with the score at 99-12. BYU head coach David Smyth knew the CU game was important for his team heading into the post-season. “CU is a good team despite the score,” Smyth said, “To have held them to just twelve points speaks volumes to the defensive effort of the guys. We needed this game to really get us ready for the playoffs. We’re looking forward to the playoffs” BYU’s post-season begins with the Cougars hosting the Bruins of UCLA on South Field May 5th at 1pm. The Cougars and Bruins will meet for the first time in the post season with UCLA having garnered the #2 seed out of the Pacific Conference behind conference champs St. Mary’s College. A BYU win pairs the Cougars against the Penn State vs. Life University winner played May 5th also. Should Life garner their quarterfinal victory BYU would travel to Marietta, GA to take on the Running Eagles of Life University May 12th. Only a Penn State upset would offer the Cougars a potential semifinal at home in Provo. BYU 1st XV vs. Colorado University

Following BYU’s win twelve graduating seniors were honored for their contributions to the program. Of the twelve seniors, four dotted down for the Cougars, most notable was the tally of five tries by the BYU scrumhalf.
