Navy Sails to 3-0
Colleges - College DI-A

The US Naval Academy defeated Penn State early Saturday 29-12, to move to 3-0 and stake claim to one of the top spots in the Rugby East conference.

Navy  scored two tries in the first half as Navy led 12-7 at halftime. In an intense, physical match the Middies broke through midway through the second period. Fullback Matt Arnsberger's try made it 17-7, and then No. 8 Sean Rohrs scored four minutes later.

Rohrs was soon taking a breather for a yellow card, but that didn't seem to stop Navy, as flanker Seamus Siefring made it a back row trifecta for the Navy loosies. Arnsberger's second conversion put Navy up 29-7.

Penn State kept at it and were rewarded with a try from Michael Erickson just before full time.

"We always are up for a game against Penn State," said co-captain Rohrs. "We know they always play well. But our team has been gelling and we love the challenge of playing. [We knew] going in that the game is about ball control. We can't afford to throw the ball around cavalierly, and any chance the opposition gives us, we have to take."

Navy joins Army at 3-0 in Rugby East. Army held off a determined Dartmouth side 32-23.
