Lowland, Snow Canyon Highlight Utah Youth Playoffs
School Age - Boys

Utah Youth Rugby held their playoffs this weekend, with some newer names coming to the forefront.

The UYR league has certain restrictions on how teams are formed, so the top U19 squads, namely Highland and United, field a U19 1st XV in their own league, and then field a different team in the Rugby Utah competition.

Still, Highland and United’s squads did make the playoffs; they just didn't go all the way.

Snow Canyon knocked out Highland this weekend 17-12 in the semis to make the title game, while Lowland defeated United 19-14.

Lowland, which has been in existence for just three years, has made its second state final.

“I think it is an important point that rugby is growing and evolving in Utah,” said UYR President Michael Cressler. “This sends a clear message to the traditional powerhouse teams that there is a new day dawning in high school rugby.”

The state finals are set for May 27 and 28, with the Snow Canyon v. Lowland gamer highlighting a huge weekend of rugby.
