Nicolet Wins Wisconsin HS Title
School Age - Boys

Its official in the Badger state as spring HS rugby has come to a close. The team that won the state championship last has done well for itself again and repeated. Nicolet RFC pulled out a win 25-17 over a hard-nosed Marquette squad to take home the Division I title.

Nicolet was the first to break the scoreless tie with an early 5-0 lead, but it went back and forth all game long. Marquette got a score from their No.8 Bernard Stutts off a stolen five-meter scrum in the corner for a tie 5-5.

Nicolet countered with score off a knock-on from Marquette on the next kick-off. Nicolet would use the penalty efficiently and get the ball out wide for another score to go up 10-5. Marquette came right back, this time off a penalty of “not back 10” from Nicolet for a score and conversion at 12-10 at the half.

Marquette used that late score for momentum in the second half to get a long score from their wing and go up 17-10. However, Nicolet showed its pride and perseverance in a timely fashion.

Reeling off 15 straight points off back-to-back-to-back scores, Nicolet stole the momentum right back from Marquette and leave little doubt about being the class of Division I rugby in the Wisconsin.

With the win, Nicolet finished the year undefeated at 8-0.

On the Division II side, the Whitefish Bay Berserkers settled in to a groove early with an easy 62-17 win over Elkhorn to stay undefeated on the year at 8-0.
