HS Boys Heading to Key Weekends
School Age - Boys

It’s coming on playoff time for many of the Boys High School leagues around the nation.

Undefeated Triad and Tigers from North Carolina headline the quarterfinals in that state.

In SoCal, it’s the semifinals. Back Bay defeated Santa Monica 45-9 last weekend,  while the Mustangs were clear winners of ICEF 46-28. Oceanside beat South Bay 21-7, and SOC Gators edged the LA Cougars 21-12. Those four will face off this weekend.

In Northern California, the HS club leagues start their knockout rounds. Marin faces Mother Lode, Santa Rosa plays the Islanders, Lamorinda plays San Mateo, and SFGG plays Granite Bay in perhaps the most intriguing of the games.

In Louisiana, it’s all decided, as Louisiana Jesuit beat Archbishop Shaw 28-15 last weekend for the state title.

In Colorado playoffs also begin, with the Boys DI playoffs down to three teams – East HS, Colorado Springs, and Cherry Creek – who are tied at 6-1.

Elsewhere, some big games are slated as the regular season comes to a close.

In New York, Xavier looks to take on Greenwich, while McQuaid Jesuit secured a big win over Fairport. McQuaid will play Xavier in the coming weeks.

Said Xavier coach Joe Sweeney, “We’ve been a work in progress this year.  We are very young and [we] started out slowly. But we’re starting to play some good rugby lately.”

Following their tour of Ireland Xavier battled Hale School of Australia well, until jet lag and their hectic schedule caught up with them.

"The guys are pumped up about playing Xavier," Greenwich assistant coach John Porter told the local press. "They beat McQuaid 17-14, so we feel we have a shot this year. Everything is coming together for us at the right time."

In Eastern Penn, St. Gregory’s won the matchup of undefeated teams as they downed St. Joe’s 11-5 last weekend.

Some exciting games this weekend include 2-0 Downingtown v. 3-2 Malvern Prep, and 7-0 West Shore United against 6-0 Cumberland Valley. Salesnium, 4-0, faces 2-1 Unionville,

In Western Pa., Burrell still rules in the single-school category. They took care of Fox Chapel 59-0 and face Central Catholic next week.

In the HS Club, everyone is looking ahead to May 4, when the South Hills Fatheads visit the North Park Crusaders  in a match between two 3-1 teams. The winner should take the league.

In Northern California, Bellarmine faces Dixon, and also Christian Brothers in the last two matches of the Single-School league. Dixon is undefeated.

In Oregon, the big game is in HS Club. There the 5-0 Barbarians play the 5-0 Bulls.
