SFGG versus Hayward Wednesday. Austin Brewin photo. The SFGG High School Club team edged a tough Hayward side 22-21 Wednesday at Sheeran Field on Treasure Island.

In a game of two very contrasting styles, and was refereed by Darren Folau, a New Zealand ref on exchange in California.

The older, more mature, SFGG Gold team prevailed, but barely.

SFGG took a 7-0 lead with a try from Kevin Sullivan, but Hayward tied the game up 7-7 midway through the first half.

Two tries by Danny Lalor paced SFGG to a 22-14 lead. With five minutes to go, Hayward scored and converted, but could not get that crucial final try.

SFGG are set to face Granite Bay this weekend in the NorCal HS playoffs.
