Blaine Scully is, thankfully, fine after a scary hit in the opening seconds of his match Saturday.
The USA wing/fullback started at right wing for the Leicester Tigers against Samu Manoa's Northampton Saints on Saturday. Scully took a hit right after the kickoff and was down for a while. He was taken off for a concussion assessment on the sideline, which he passed, and he returned.
Scully featured well in the game, making a couple of key defensive plays, including holding up what would have been the winning try. See the highlights.
The teams tied 19-19. Manoa was again a major force for the Saints and also featured heavily in their defensive effort.
Meanwhile Chris Wyles started at the relatively unfamiliar position of inside center for Saracens, as they won again, 19-12 over Wasps. You get the feeling that if Saracens play Wyles at No. 8, he'd be great and Sarries would win. They are 5-0, and very happy to see the two teams closest to them, Northampton and Leicester, tie, giving Saracens a six-point cushion in the league.
US-born British & Irish Lion Alex Corbisiero scored a try for London Irish, who are 2-3 in the Premiership.
It was hoped that Andrew Suniula would get a run-on in the A-league match between Wasps and Saracens, but that match was called off.
In France, Biarritz continue their woes, and Taku Ngwenya has had precious few scoring opportunities on the wing. He started, and Biarritz lost, 16-12 to Perpignan.
Scott LaValla started at flanker as Stade Francais lost 28-10 to Toulouse (see video)
And in Japan, Todd Clever started at No. 8 for NTT Shining Arcs as they beat NTT Dot Com 28-17.
Without Clever on the squad, the Shining Arcs were 0-2 in Japan Top League play. Since he has returned to the lineup, they are 3-0 and moved from last place (8th) in their pool to 5th. They are tied in points with 4th-place Toyota, and within five points of 3rd.
