Todd Clever got back on the field with a bang this weekend.
Having been rested since his action with the USA, Clever was finally on the subs bench Sunday for the NTT Communications league match against Toyota in Japan. Clever came on as a sub for lock Isaac Ross but moved to No. 8.
With the score 26-21 in favor of Toyota and ten minutes to go, NTT got forced a scrum right in front of the Toyota posts. Toyota had the put-in, but NTT wheeled the scrum and got a new scrum, with the put-in. Then Clever picked from the based and went over for the try. Flyhalf Yuki Kawamoto put NTT up 28-26 with the conversion. That's how the game ended.
Clever, who sparked the team with his play and helped them come back from a 26-14 deficit, was named Man of the Match.
Samu Manoa started at No. 8 for Northampton as the Saints beat Harlequins 13-6.
Saracens won 44-12 over Gloucester, with Chris Wyles starting at fullback and have a solid game. Luke Hume did not play for Gloucester, who were undone by a yellow card in the 2nd minute.
Bath beat Leicester 27-20. Blaine Scully did not suit up for the Tigers.
Saracens now leads the Premiership with a 2-0 record, just ahead of 2-0 Northampton on bonus points. Leicester is 4th at 1-1 and Gloucester last with a record of 0-2.
In The Championships, Eric Fry was on the bench for London Scottish as they defeated Ealing 44-13. Will Magie did not play for Ealing in the game.
Robbie Shaw came on as a sub for Esher and scored a try in his club's 40-30 defeat of Henley.
In Ireland, Trinity (Cameron Falcon, Pierce Dargan, Conor Kearns, Conor McGill) lost 32-23 to Terenure College in the Leinster Senior Cup, and the 2nds lost also.
Gearoid McDonald is playing for Lansdowne, who lost this weekend. John Quill is with Dolphin, but is still injured.
In France, Scott LaValla came on at flanker in the 57th minute in Stade Francais's 25-18 defeat of Brive in the Top 14. Taku Ngwenya once again started for Biarritz, but they lost 31-7 to Toulon.
Biarritz is 1-5 and in last place. Paris moved up to 3rd (4-2) with the victory.
In the Pro D2, Seta Tuilevuka started at outside center for Beziers as they beat Agen 30-24. Inaki Basauri was not used by Tarbes in their 23-16 loss to Bg-en-Bresse.
In lower divisions, Rolan Suniula started for Vienne in their 14-12 loss to Aubenas-Vals. Mate Moeakiola started at prop for L'Uson as they defeated St. Nazaire 19-13.
