It’s Round 5 of the two European club competitions this weekend – the Heineken Cup, and the 2nd-tier Amlin Challenge Cup.

Several Americans were rested for these games.

Chris Wyles started at fullback and scored a crucial try as Saracens won 37-28 over Racing Metro in the Heineken Cup. Saracens is now 4-1 in Pool A and hasn’t clinched 1st place yet, but is really close.

Biarritz won 32-6 over Zebre to move to 3-2 in Pool 3. The win was likely not enough to clinch a quarterfinal spot. Taku Ngwenya did not play.

Samua Manoa did play, starting at lock for Northampton as they beat Castres 18-12. The Saints are now 3-2 in Pool 4, which is not quite good enough to cinch up a QF spot, as Toulouse and Montpellier are in better position to claim the wild card bids.

In the Amlin Challenge Cup, Wasps moved to 4-1 with a 71-7 thrashing of Mogliano. Paul Emerick did not play.

Scott LaValla was also rested as Stade Francais took on Grenoble. Stade needed two bonus points to clinch 1st in Pool 5. They got one in a 15-9 loss. They should clinch next week.
