It was a big weekend for several Americans playing rugby overseas.
Topping the list were Chris Wyles and Hayden Smith, who started for Saracens at outside center and lock, respectively. Wyles scored a try as Saravens won 33-12 over Exeter and moved to within two points of first place in the Aviva Premiership in England.
Also notable, Scott LaValla captained Trinity (Dublin University) to an upset win over University College Dublin 31-22 in the annual Colours Match between the two Irish universities. LaValla, playing blindside flanker, led from the front and was named man of the match in a thrilling match.
Also scoring a try and earning player of the game honors was Nic Johnson, who helped L'Aquila to a 31-24 win over Lazio in Italy.
In other aciton, Lou Stanfill started at No. 8 for Mogliano as they beat Venezia 39-8. Taku Ngwenya was a try-scorer again for Biarritz as they beat Brive 52-26 and moved back into 5th. Montpellier, without Seta Tuilevuka, lost to Bayonne and dropped to 6th. Agen, without Kevin Swiryn, beat La Rochelle 29-19.
London Welsh rested Shawn Pittman but used Will Johnson in their final match of the season, 27-13 over Nottingham, which starts Junior Sifa but rested Tim Usasz.
