It’s not been an exceptionally busy spring so far for Americans overseas, but there have been some highlights.
This past weekend, Taku Ngwenya scored a key try for Biarritz as his club won 22-13 over Racing Metro. At the time, with eight minutes to go, Biarritz led by just a point, 14-13.
Also in action in France was Scott LaValla, who got five minutes at the end of the Stade Francais 35-31 defeat of Perpignan. LaValla has not been starting regularly, but with a three-year contract in Paris, is expected to be part of the team’s future plans.
Seta Tuilevuka is still looking for a chance to get back on the field for Montpellier after a series of injuries.
In Pro D2 in France, Inaki Basauri started for Perigueux, which loist 27-19 to Mont de Marsan, and remains in last place in the league.
In the UK, Saracens has slipped to 3rd in the Aviva Premiership, but won 9-3 over Newcastle. Chris Wyles started at center.
Paul Emerick looks to be healthy for selection after injuring his hamstring a few weeks ago. But he was not selected for Wasps as they went down 18-12 to Bath.
Samu Manoa is also nursing an injury. After being out with a hamstring issue he played a week ago, but was not used in the Saints’ 18-15 win over Exeter. Chris Biller also did not play for Northampton.
That victory pushed the Saints into 4th and a potential playoff spot.
In the RFU Championship, London Welsh is in the semis after beating Nottingham 33-25. Shawn Pittman had a strong game, running well and setting up a try.
Leeds and Mike MacDonald beat the Cornish Pirates and Andrew Suniula in what was the last game for Leeds and the last game for MacDonald at the club. Robbie Shaw, who did not play, is also leaving Leeds as the Yorkshire club goes on a youth movement.
And in New Zealand, Taylor Mokate and Eric Fry played well for the Wairarapa-Bush all-star XV as they went down 30-25 to New Zealand Universities in an exciting match.
