Saracens remains 2nd in the Aviva Premiership in England. Samua Manoa was not used by Northampton in their 26-6 defeat of Bath. Neither was Chris Biller. However, fans should know that Manoa is up for an award, as fans can vote for Supporters Player of the Year. Manoa is certainly one of the candidates, and you can vote here: http://www.northamptonsaints.co.uk/end_of_season_awards.php You might also wish to vote for the 2nd Vasily Artemyev try for Try of the Year (v. Castres) as Manoa sets that one up nicely. In the French Top 14, Seta Tuilevuka is expected back for Montpellier in about three weeks after sports hernia surgery. Taku Ngwenya started at wing for Biarritz in their 15-14 win over Clermont. Scott LaValla was on the subs bench but not used as Stade Francais lost 22-18 to Toulouse. A reminder that Kevin Swiryn has retired from rugby and left Agen early.
Shawn Pittman started at prop for London Welsh as they thumped Doncaster 40-19. Andrew Suniula started for the Cornish Pirates as they edged Rotherham 17-14. London Welsh now leads Promotion Pool A with a 3-1 record and two games left. The Cornish Pirates trail Bedford in Pool B, with Leeds 3rd. The top two teams from each pool play in the semis.
JJ Gagiano started at No. 8 for the Golden Lions in their 71-25 Vodacom Cup win over the Griffons. This is the 2nd tier competition in South Africa, below the Super 15. Checking in with others … USA center Junior Sifa has moved to Perth, Australia where he is looking at how to prepare for life after rugby. He is playing for the Associates Rugby Club while also pursuing an electrician traineeship. “I'm at a age I need to sort out my life after rugby,” Sifa told RUGBYMag.com. “I am still available for Eagles selection but will wait and see what squad coach Tolkin goes with. Hopefully the level here is sufficient enough for me to play at an International level.” And Taylor Mokate and Eric Fry are playing for Old Boys University in the Wellington (NZ) club league. See below highlights of an earlier match (OBU in stripes). Fry is easily recognizable with his very blond hair playing prop.
