A quick rundown of USA players overseas and what they’re up to:
Aviva Premiership (England’s top professional competition)
Chris Biller: Joined Bath to fill in for injured players. Those players are healthy now and Bath has a lot of foreigners, so he will likely be coming home after his short-term contract is up.
Paul Emerick: Just signed with Wasps and is expected to be available to play by next week.
Samu Manoa: Playing regularly at lock and No. 8 for the Northampton Saints.
Hayden Smith: Playing occasionally at lock and flanker for Saracens, he has recently, apparently, decided to look into trying out for an NFL team.
Chris Wyles: Regular starter for Saracens at wing, center and fullback and arguably one of their best players.
French Top 14 (France’s top professional competition)
Scott LaValla: Playing off and on for Stade Francais, usually at lock but sometimes in the back row. Signed a contract extension with the club that will keep him in Paris for at least three seasons.
Takudzwa Ngwenya: Wing for Biarritz, is one of their top try-scorers and regular starter.
Kevin Swiryn: Wing for Agen, Swiryn has not played a great deal for the 1st team this season.
Seta Tuilevuka: Center and wing for Montpellier, did not play because of an injury and has still not broken into the lineup.
Japan Top League (as the name suggests, the top league in Japan)
Todd Clever: The USA captain has been moving all over the back part of the scrum – lock, flanker, eight – as he plays for league leaders Suntory. His contract with the club is up this month.
RFU Championship (England’s 2nd-tier pro competition)
Mike MacDonald: Regular loosehead prop for Leeds Carnegie until a knee injury put him on the sidelines for 10 weeks.
Shawn Pittman: Tighthead prop for London Welsh, he continues to be a regular starter (although he did break his nose recently).
Robbie Shaw: Playing scrumhalf for Leeds Carnegie.
Andrew Suniula: Was playing for Cornish Pirates on a regular basis before a broken led sidelined him, and now a knee injury has him not playing again.
French Pro d2 (Second-tier competition in France)
Inaki Basauri: Usually a flanker for the USA, Basauri has been playing a lot of lock for Perigueux as they try not to finish last in the division.
Australia Club System
Dimitri Efthimiou: The former Mystic River player is playing with Norths in Sydney.
Casey Rock: Rock is joining Sydney University.
Eric Fry: University Old Boys club, Wellington. This is a club in the Wellington RFU system.
Taylor Mokate: Mokate is playing with Wellington Football Club, not to be confused with the Wellington Super 15 team. This is in the Wellington club system. They are a strong club.
Derek Asbun: the former Cal captain earned his Blue for Oxford as a flanker, but has also slotted in at hooker.
Jason Law: Like Asbun, a Cal grad, he also has been playing for Oxford University and earned his Blue in December.
Will Magie: The USA U20 flyhalf is attending Leeds University and playing for the team there.
We're checking on JJ Gagiano and Junior Sifa.
