Women's DI Club Standings - Oct. 3, 2011
Scores-Standings-Stats - 2011 Standings

In CR 1, ORSU (5-0) clinched the top seed with a 36-0 win over the Mudhens (2-2), and Seattle reinforced its station at second after a 44-0 victory over Tempe (0-4) (read more).

Game of the weekend went to North Shore's 10-5 victory over Detroit.

“The game was OK,” ORSU coach Jarred Power said after the Mudhens game. “We had some trouble finding our rhythm and were plagued by unforced errors. But we made some positional changes at 9, 10, 12 and 7, so some mistakes were sure to happen. Defense was looking better and helped by Beckett playing at 7. We will look at the next two weeks to finetune.”

The Mudhens slid into fourth place behind Belmont Shore (3-0), which trampled San Francisco (0-5) 72-0. The last two weeks of league play are incredibly difficult for Shore, however, and the team will play Seattle and the Mudhens back to back next week, then end with ORSU. Emerald City ends with Nor Cal, so playoffs are very much a possibility for the Mudhens.

In CR 2, Glendale (5-0) wrapped up the top seed with a 99-0 drubbing over Black Ice (0-5), and did so with many of their stars – Jill Potter, Kitt Wagner, Sara Edwards and Bethany Zick Wilson – on the bench. It was a good opportunity to work in some borderline DI/DII players as coach Lisa Rosen looks toward the post-season.

Chicago North Shore (2-2) is in the midst of a comeback and beat Detroit (2-2) 10-5 in an extremely tough match. Both teams have Austin (3-1) and St. Louis (1-3) in the final two weeks of league play, and a nice race for the last two seeds to nationals will shake out. North Shore has the most difficult task ahead, as 57 points separate the team from Detroit. Teams will be looking to run up the score against St. Louis, which lost to Austin 109-5 Saturday, to put some distance between competitors.

Atlanta (4-0) enjoyed a bye week during the fifth week in CR 3, but has already locked up the top seed. They will play Albany (3-1) at home this weekend. The Sirens pulled away from Boston in the second half, extending a 10-7 halftime lead to finish 29-7. It has been an incredibly successful season for the reigning DII champion during their first season in DI.

CR 3 only has two seeds and Albany is neck and neck with NOVA and Providence for that final invite to the Elite 8. NOVA defeated the Village Lions (0-4) 48-5 (read more) and will play its fellow second-seed competitors in the final two weeks. Providence (4-1) down Philadelphia (1-4) this weekend 27-14.
